Do Sisterlocks Cost Too Much?

There’s something that’s been on my mind for a long time and I need to get this off of my chest once and for all.

I’ve gotten, and still get emails and phone calls from people who desire to get the ever-popular, always beautiful Sisterlocks ™, but a common complaint is:

“I can’t afford them!”

That was my challenge back in 1998 or so when I was tired of the vicious cycle of growth and breakage my hair was going through.

I’m not even sure how I’d heard about SL’s. I just remember getting their brochure in the mail, drooling over how beautiful they were, and feeling devastated when I saw the cost because they were way out of my range.

Aside from the affordability issue, I’ve also heard the complaint that they’re “too expensive” and, well, I don’t necessarily agree with that statement and I’d like to explain why.

But first, let’s clearly define the difference between something being too expensive and being unaffordable.

Unaffordable implies that one does not possess the means to purchase it although they may desire to do so.
Too expensive
, on the other hand, implies that whether the person CAN pay for it or not, they do not see the value in it. To them, it’s not worth the cost or the price is unjustifiable.

Possible Causes of Loc Breakage Part 2

Video Content Reader

Welcome back! 🙂

This is a continuation of my article on the possible causes of loc breakage.  In part one, I discussed some reasons that someone may end up losing locs such as: tightening (or even twisting) too tightly & too frequently; weak, fragile hair; and wearing the hair pulled back.

So today, we will address a few more causes of loc breakage that you should be aware of: [Read more…] about Possible Causes of Loc Breakage Part 2

What Causes Loc Breakage And How To Stop It

Inside: If you’re wondering, “What causes loc breakage?”, the following may give you some insight as to why, as well as suggestions to stop future loc breakage.

No one wants to think about their locs breaking off.

Heck, no one wants to think about their hair breaking off, period, but it happens.

Hair breakage can be a result of anything from heat styling, to chemicals and more.  And like loose hair, there are many reasons someone might look up and see a loc on the floor, pillow, or right off into your hand.

Why Locs Rock

Believe it or not, there are folks out there who wonder…

“Why in the world would anyone want locs (dreadlocks) in their hair??”

Or…

“Why did you DO that to your hair?”

Or they’ll say something slick like…

“Your hair would be so pretty if it were straight!” 😒

Admittedly, I used to BE one of those people. Yep, the Bradelocz Lady used to think locs were dirty, ugly, and just plain nasty.

In hindsight, I know it was out of pure ignorance, coupled with the heavy indoctrination of westernized beliefs when it came to hair… that straight hair was superior.

Now that my mind has been shifted…

I feel compelled to express why I love locs and why I think… KNOW they rock! 🙂

Some will feel me, some will completely get it, and others will not and that’s okay.

But hey, ya never know what kind of enlightenment this article may be for someone, so here goes…

1. Locs are one of the most natural ways to wear & appreciate our NAPtural hair

Locking is what our hair would do if there were no combs, brushes, hot tools, etc.

In fact, the kinkier the hair is, the better suited it is for locking! Some of the most BEAUTIFUL locs I’ve ever seen are the ones on hair that is super-tightly coiled.

So if you’re tired of fighting with your “naps”, beating them into subjection with heat or chemicals, or trying to detangle & comb thru them… let ’em do what they wanna naturally do!

2. Locs are a HUGE time saver

Imagine waking up and only needing a light fluff or spritz with water to “wake them up”, rather than having to plug in a curling iron or straightener.

That’s what locs can do for you… provide you with that ‘get-up-and-go hair’.

3. Locs are virtually “wash-and-go”

Unless you have to tighten them, the only thing to do is separate the the ones that try joining together, apply a little oil and you’re all set!

No blow-drying, flat-ironing, curling or the like although if you desire, you can style them.

4. Locs are virtually worry & hassle-free

Sure there’s maintenance, but if you use an interlocking method, then you’ll only have to do that once every 4-8 weeks or so.

Not only that, but you won’t find yourself running from the rain, avoiding water parks or getting splashed/dunked in the pool, and you won’t fear sweating your hair out while working out or anything else!

5. Locs are very versatile

They come in all shapes & sizes and can be styled, sculpted and molded into many beautiful styles or simply worn as-is!

Those are just a few reasons locs totally ROCK!

I’m sure there are many more reasons that weren’t mentioned here, but the aforementioned are a good starting point!

So, if you’ve been on the fence about locking your hair, hopefully this has served as inspiration and encouragement to go for it.

Will A Latch Hook Damage Your Hair?

If you’ve ever wondered whether or not using a latch hook to tighten your locs was damaging and could pull your hair out, please allow me to dispel that myth and ease your mind! [Read more…] about Will A Latch Hook Damage Your Hair?
