Believe it or not, there are folks out there who wonder…
“Why in the world would anyone want locs (dreadlocks) in their hair??”
Or…
“Why did you DO that to your hair?”
Or they’ll say something slick like…
“Your hair would be so pretty if it were straight!” 😒
Admittedly, I used to BE one of those people. Yep, the Bradelocz Lady used to think locs were dirty, ugly, and just plain nasty.
In hindsight, I know it was out of pure ignorance, coupled with the heavy indoctrination of westernized beliefs when it came to hair… that straight hair was superior.
Now that my mind has been shifted…
I feel compelled to express why I love locs and why I think… KNOW they rock! 🙂
Some will feel me, some will completely get it, and others will not and that’s okay.
But hey, ya never know what kind of enlightenment this article may be for someone, so here goes…
1. Locs are one of the most natural ways to wear & appreciate our NAPtural hair
Locking is what our hair would do if there were no combs, brushes, hot tools, etc.
In fact, the kinkier the hair is, the better suited it is for locking! Some of the most BEAUTIFUL locs I’ve ever seen are the ones on hair that is super-tightly coiled.
So if you’re tired of fighting with your “naps”, beating them into subjection with heat or chemicals, or trying to detangle & comb thru them… let ’em do what they wanna naturally do!
2. Locs are a HUGE time saver
Imagine waking up and only needing a light fluff or spritz with water to “wake them up”, rather than having to plug in a curling iron or straightener.
That’s what locs can do for you… provide you with that ‘get-up-and-go hair’.
3. Locs are virtually “wash-and-go”
Unless you have to tighten them, the only thing to do is separate the the ones that try joining together, apply a little oil and you’re all set!
No blow-drying, flat-ironing, curling or the like although if you desire, you can style them.
4. Locs are virtually worry & hassle-free
Sure there’s maintenance, but if you use an interlocking method, then you’ll only have to do that once every 4-8 weeks or so.
Not only that, but you won’t find yourself running from the rain, avoiding water parks or getting splashed/dunked in the pool, and you won’t fear sweating your hair out while working out or anything else!
5. Locs are very versatile
They come in all shapes & sizes and can be styled, sculpted and molded into many beautiful styles or simply worn as-is!
Those are just a few reasons locs totally ROCK!
I’m sure there are many more reasons that weren’t mentioned here, but the aforementioned are a good starting point!
So, if you’ve been on the fence about locking your hair, hopefully this has served as inspiration and encouragement to go for it.
Blessings & Warmest Regards,
