Here is another Bradelocz question…
“How long does it take for the braid pattern to go away and the hair look more like a loc than a braid?”
There WAS a time when I’d really try to get all into how long the braid pattern would last, etc.
But one day I really thought about it and came to a realization.
Most people look into locking their hair with braids desiring locs or dreadlocks. But think about my sales letter for Bradelocz. Think about what is stated on my website header.
What do I market Bradelocz as?
So, if you have the mindset, “I’m getting permanent braids” or “I have permanent braids!“… then the whole issue of when the braid pattern goes way would be a non-issue.
However, as I stated before, I know that not everyone who is interested in Bradelocz is interested in the whole permanent braids concept and may simply want locs that just so happen to start with braids.
Okay, I get it. So let’s address it, then.
How Long Will Bradelocz Look Like Braids?
The braid pattern seems to “hang in there” longer when:
- You start off with long hair that is 8 inches or longer
- The hair texture is softer and the curl pattern is more loose
- A combination of the above
If your locs are started with roughly 3-6 inches of hair, braid pattern doesn’t seem to last as long. Same if your hair is more coarse in texture and tighter in curl pattern.
When my eldest daughter was locked, her hair was about 8 inches long, AND she had a loose, wiry curl pattern.
She kept that braid pattern for a LONG time. In fact, as we were taking her locs down, you could still see her braid pattern very distinctly under the fuzziness.
My locs, on the other hand… I started out with short hair – about 4 inches at the longest parts – and although my texture isn’t tightly coiled; my braid pattern was gone probably after the first several months or so and eventually, you couldn’t see it at all!
So, those are things to consider
If you have a softer texture or hair and/or a looser curl pattern and you feel the braid look will be bothersome to you, then you may wish to consider starting with 6 inches or less.
If you have a more coarse texture and tighter curl pattern, then you should be good either way but you might want to start with no MORE than 8 inches of length.
But again, these are Bradelocz – The Permanent Braids so, try not to sweat it too much either way! 😉Blessings & Warmest Regards,
